How long does it take to heal from pets death?

I lost an 18 year old cat, Tigger, 2 years ago and the heartbreak I feel is still unbelievable! Unable to have children, I bonded with him as a mother would a child. He gave me so much unconditional love that nothing or noone could ever replace him. When does the pain stop? Ever?
